ANALYSIS
Upto 1984, that is, before the two brutal attacks of Indian government on Sikhs, there were few casualties as shown by the graph of KPS Gill. But the casualties mounted thereafter for about a decade, particularly those of civilians.
One may therefore ask what the ultimate purpose of the genocidal attacks on Sikhs in 1984 was. Apparently, it was to brutalise the population of Punjab and in the process eliminate all young Sikhs in the state, be they angry militants, policemen or civilian Sikhs. Loss of a few Hindus in the process was only a collateral damage for the government.
